  • 5 onions, thinly sliced
  • 6 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 pound shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • ½ cup white wine

  • 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, sliced
