Delicious Apple Pie Recipe

The Crust

Let's start with the crust, the foundation of any great apple pie. For this recipe, you'll need 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup of unsalted butter (cut into small cubes), and 1/2 cup of ice water.

To make the crust, simply combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter and use a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice water and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, shape into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least one hour.

The Filling

Now let's move on to the delicious apple filling. You will need 6-7 cups of thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored), 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.

In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until the apples are evenly coated. Set the filling aside while you roll out the crust.

Assembly

Once the crust has chilled, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one disc of dough into a 12-inch circle and carefully transfer it to a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess dough from the edges. Pour the apple filling into the crust and use a spoon to evenly distribute the apples.

Roll out the second disc of dough and either place it on top of the filling as a full crust, or cut it into strips to create a lattice pattern. Trim and crimp the edges of the crust, then brush the top with an egg wash for a golden finish. Sprinkle with a little sugar for extra sweetness.

Baking

Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. If the edges of the crust start to brown too quickly, you can cover them with aluminum foil.

Once the pie is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for at least an hour before slicing. This will allow the filling to set and make for easier serving. Enjoy a slice of warm apple pie on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Variations

If you're feeling adventurous, you can try adding a handful of fresh berries or a splash of bourbon to the filling for a unique twist. You can also experiment with different spices like ginger or cardamom for a bit of exotic flavor.

With this delicious apple pie recipe, you'll have the perfect dessert for any occasion. Whether it's a family gathering, holiday celebration, or just a cozy night at home, a homemade apple pie is always a crowd-pleaser. Happy baking!
